Foundations: shaping healthcare in their communities and beyond
During his 25-year fundraising career, Kevin Callanan has raised over $56 million for community hospitals and schools. His biggest project to date was the $10 million capital campaign that funded the creation of a state-of-the-art cancer center at Valley Health in Winchester, VA.
The cancer center, which opened in August of 2016, features treatment and clinic spaces for radiation oncology, medical oncology and hematology, and surgical oncology. Its infusion center overlooks a beautiful lake and healing garden. The center cares for over a thousand newly diagnosed cancer patients each year, and is committed to providing them with the best care possible. It is a shining example of the kind of impact a foundation can have on a community.
In this episode, we speak with Mr. Callanan about his experience leading Valley Health’s capital campaign. We also discuss the role foundations play in supporting care delivery in our communities and how they’re shaping the future of healthcare.
